About
Club de Pétanque d’Adelaide is the oldest Pétanque club in Australia being founded in 1977. We are located on the corner of Greenhlll and Unley Roads, just out the of the CBD, right next door to Adelaide Tree Climb. We play on most Sundays (please refer to the Event Calendar tab), with summer games on a Friday evening until the end of summer. During winter, our club hosts competitions every second Sunday in the afternoon. We offer training and coaching each Wednesday between 09:45 am and 12 noon, and a casual French Language Conversation group with Pétanque from 10 am to 12 noon each Saturday
Club de Pétanque d’Adelaide is affiliated with Adelaide French Language Meet Up (AFLM), Highgate Primary and Unley High Schools, Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide FEAST, the French Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FACCI), and a number of French businesses in South Australia in the promotion of French language and culture. Throughout the year, the club works with Seniors SA and WEA in providing programs for these organisations. Club de Pétanque d’Adelaide also boasts a number of local, national and international champions.
Our club welcomes LGBTQIA+, all age groups, levels and abilities who are keen to expand upon and enjoy French language and culture over a few games of Pétanque with some pastis, wine and food. We are a totally inclusive club with an indoor licence capacity of up to 80, and 400 outside. Bon appetite!
Who we are
Pétanque (sometimes called Boules) is a target sport, where participants throw metal balls and get them as close as possible to a small wooden target ball (called a cochonnet or jack), while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. The game is normally played on hard dirt or gravel. It can be played in public areas in parks, or in dedicated facilities called boulodromes. This classic French game is great if you’re looking for a fun pastime to do with your friends and family.
Pétanque (pay-tonk’) is an international sport from France that involves opposing teams, of 1, 2, or 3 people, rolling or throwing metal balls at a smaller wooden target ball. Pétanque is related to Italian Bocce Ball and English Lawn Bowling.
Pétanque is a quick and easy sport to learn. It is an enjoyable, social, competitive team game that utilizes and develops concentration, strategizing, mindfulness, focus, and body-mind coordination. Pétanque’s health benefits include stress relief, improved flexibility, light cardio, and the positive mental and social rewards of this outdoor activity.
